Lesson 4 · 5 min

Materials, gauge and finished size

The facts buyers check before they buy the yarn.

Materials

  • Yarn name, fibre and weight (e.g. DK / 3)
  • Amount in metres or yards, not just skeins
  • Hook size in mm and US size
  • Notions: stitch markers, safety eyes, tapestry needle, stuffing

Gauge

Write gauge as a number of stitches and rows over a measured square, in the stitch used, and after blocking if that matters.

16 sts × 18 rows = 10 cm (4 in) in sc, blocked

Finished size

Give the measurements of the finished item, and for wearables, how much ease you designed for.
