Writing rows, rounds and stitch counts
Clear lines, ending counts and repeats that never confuse.
One line, one row
Start each line with its label — Row 1: or Round 1: — then the stitches, then the stitch count in brackets at the end.
Round 3: (sc in next st, inc) × 6 (18)
Always give an ending count
The count at the end of each line is the maker's checkpoint. It is the single biggest thing that separates a professional pattern from a confusing one.
Write repeats clearly
- Brackets with a multiplier: (sc 2, inc) × 6
- Asterisks for “repeat from *”: *sc 2, inc; rep from * around
- Rows that repeat: Rows 4-8: sc in each st across (30)
Stay consistent
Pick one style for repeats and stitch counts and use it everywhere. Mixing styles is the most common reason testers get lost.
In CrochetStudio
Numbering, “Rows 4-8” labels and the stitch count on every line happen automatically as you type.
